The inner thigh lift (medial thigh tuck) has been developed to improve the appearance of undesired redundant and floppy inner thigh skin. Although excess fat can also be present, most patients complain of the floppy skin which, when prominent, can be considered unattractive, make it difficult to fit into jeans, or actually rub against each other causing discomfort while exercising. The goal of the inner thigh lift is to not only remove excess fat but also to trim out the skin redundancy.

Inner thigh lift (medial thigh tuck) surgery has become modified over the last few years. Historically, inner thigh lift had been described using a concealed incision located in the inner groin. Although this incision location was ideal for hiding an inner thigh lift procedure, it was associated with several unwanted side effects. First, the inner thigh lift incision concealed in the groin area results in a limited and suboptimal removal of skin. Moreover, this older technique also resulted in traction and distortion of the pubic region. It soon became apparent that the traditional inner thigh lift incision placement would not be ideal. Today, Dr. Mowlavi utilizes a vertical incision pattern that is strategically designed to be hidden when you are standing. Although this incision is more visible, it does allow for maximum removal of redundant skin without the side effects of the traditional inner thigh lift procedure.

The procedure for an inner thigh lift (medial thigh tuck) starts with a comprehensive removal of excess fat using liposuction techniques. This initial procedure does also provide hydrodissection, which allows for a natural plane of dissection and a decreased risk of injury to vital structures such as the saphenous vein. Excisions of redundant skin are marked preoperatively with each leg being evaluated and treated independently to address any asymmetry. Following excision, the incision lines are repaired using a 3 layer closure technique intended to minimize tension on the incision lines. This is an important consideration given that the incision is more visible. As such, for any inner thigh lift, the length of your excision line is discussed in detail as it depends on how much redundant skin you have, but is also limited to be located above your preferred short line when possible.

Procedure: Elimination of redundant skin and excess fat accumulated over the inner thighs.
Length: 1 to 2 hours depending on the amount of soft tissue being removed.
Anesthesia: General anesthesia.
Place of Treatment: Outpatient surgical suite or hospital operating room.
Side Effects: 1) Due to extent of redundant skin excised, patients may experience temporary tightness surrounding skin incisions

2) Temporary swelling may be noted along the lower legs that will subside over the first month; Dr. Mowlavi utilizes hydrodissection to avoid injury to the saphenous vein which would cause unnecessary swelling

3) Temporary numbness may be caused by increased tension in the region; Dr. Mowlavi utilizes hydrodissection of the legs to ensure that permanent nerve injury does not occur during excision of redundant skin.

Risks: 1) Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) may occur in the legs immediately following surgery. DVT refers to the clotting off of leg veins which may result in compromised blood flow return from the legs; a more critical consequence may develop from this clot if it is dislodged and travels to the lungs causing a pulmonary emboli. Although rare, pulmonary emboli are the leading cause of death following surgery. This complication is avoided by providing intermittent pneumatic compression garments

2) Local skin incision line separation is not uncommon at the upper aspect of your incision line as this area rubs against your groin region and may have sheer stress. In order to avoid this problem, Dr. Mowlavi utilizes a smooth and slipper dressing that eliminates sheering stresses in this area.

Recovery: The recovery for inner thigh lift (medial thigh tuck) surgery is as little as 2 weeks.
Duration of Results: Patients are extremely pleased with inner thigh (medial thigh tuck) surgery and notice less friction of the legs when walking and exercising and enjoy wearing of tighter jeans and confidence wearing shorts. Patients can expect the cosmetic results to last a lifetime as long as they avoid weight gain.

How our patients feel about us:

I was surprised that such a great result could be achieved After countless years of battling with my weight, last year I decided to get weight loss surgery and end my battle with the bulge once and for all. So, in August 2014, I did it and 7 months later I was down nearly 90lbs. I was ecstatic about my weight loss but not so happy with the excess saggy skin on my inner thighs or my sagging breasts which looked like 2 deflated balloons, nipples pointing toward the ground. I was devastated that after all my efforts in my year long journey to lose the weight that I still looked horrible. After losing 90 lbs. I wanted to look "good" and not just "less fat." After much contemplation I decided to do something about it and began looking for plastic surgeons who were also preferred providers with my insurance company. Dr. Mowlavi was the only preferred provider contracted with my insurance provider in the southern California area so I decided to consult with him. From the moment I stepped into the office I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly disposition of all the staff from the receptionist who welcomed me and signed me in to the exuberant patient coordinator, Claudia O Connor, who greeted me with a warm hug and smile and spent several minutes personally discussing the details of the procedure I was requesting. She talked to me from a personal experience, like a trusted old friend, which really put me at ease and I immediately knew I wanted to have my procedure done here. Dr. Mowlavi was equally exuberant and excited about the procedure I was requesting and spent quite some time with me explaining the procedure and realistic expectations as well. Both the Dr. and Claudia worked together to help me find ways to finance my procedure as my insurance would not cover it and I did not want to wait any longer. After the procedure I was floored! My previously saggy and deflated breasts were gone! In their place stood 2 smaller, beautifully shaped, perky breasts which I immediately fell in love with. 🙂 I was surprised that such a great result could be achieved without the use of an implant which I did not want to get. As I admired myself in the mirror 2 weeks post op, Dr. Mowlavi smiled and said modestly, "Its all you!" I nearly cried as I had not perceived of my natural body looking truly beautiful in over 20 years. This procedure brought back years of confidence in myself that I had lost 90 lbs, 20 years and 2 children ago. For anyone considering plastic surgery but has fears and feelings such as I did you owe it to yourself to consult with Dr. Mowlavi and his staff. They are truly the best at what they do.

My friends are in awe... I came in for a consultation to replace my implants that were just too big for my body. We decided on a lift as well, and I could not be happier with my results!! They are EXACTLY what I wanted . I was unsure about the Size implant I should go with, but Dr Mowlavi assured me he would make them propitiate to my body. He did just that. At times, the wait was a little long, however I actually see this as a positive . He has many patients who trust him, and to me that is much more important . His patient care coordinator was wonderful. She gave me her cell number just in case I had questions . I reached out numerous times, each time with a response within the hour. If for some reason she was not available , she had one of the staff call us back just as quickly. My friends are in awe of my results, and I cannot wait for bikini season!

He made my procedure look natural... Great Doctor, very friendly. After 1 year, i am happy with the results. He also sent me flowers after my post-op. I like his personality and energy. He did not try to sell me more procedure than I needed. He makes sure that my procedure looks natural. I would recommend him.
